Mavelikara Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Alappuzha district in the Travancore region of Kerala: Mavelikkara Municipality and Chunakkara, Mavelikkara– Thekkekara, Mavelikkara-Thamarakkulam, Nooranad, Palamel, Thazhakara, Vallikunnam Panchayats in Mavelikkara Taluk.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 163 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Mavelikara is: 9°11'28.7"N 76°36'19.4"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 71.18%, while it was 75.48% in 2016, and 75.21% in 2011.

In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, Arun Kumar of CPIM won in this constituency beating K K Shaju of INC by a margin of 24717 votes which was 16.46% of the total votes cast. In 2016, R.Rajesh of CPIM was the winner in this seat beating Baiju Kalasala of INC by a margin of 31542 votes which was 21.07% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, R. Rajesh of CPIM won this seat defeating K.K Shaju of JPSS by a margin of 5149 votes which was 3.85% of the total votes polled for the seat.
